Acrylic Martini Glass

Stirred or shaken, acrylic Martini Glasses can handle either and in style and durability. Originally the Martini was served in what we might refer to as Old Fashion Glasses or cocktail glass, however, it was not until the late 19th Century that the shape was re-defined for practicality. You see, since the drink is not poured over or with ice, rather chilled before pouring, there was a need to retain the cool for as long as possible and since holding the glass with one's hand warmed the contents, a short stem was added to aid in keeping the drink chilled as long as possible. By the early 20th Century the brim was widened, once again for practicality, because Gin needs a fairly broad air space available to it in order for the Gin spirit to open and become more flavorful and thus, the wider brim. Now that there was a wider brim the balance in the look was to make the stem a little longer (its all about proportions and looks) and there you go.
